Elfbar ELFX Review: My Real-World Test Compared to the Xros 5 Mini

This is my personal real-world impression as an adult user. Flavour, draw behaviour, temperature and usability can vary depending on the liquid, pod and individual usage.

I tested the Elfbar ELFX Standard Edition over several days in daily use. In this Elfbar ELFX review, I share my personal impressions of vapor behaviour, pod tuning, refilling, airflow and flavour.

For comparison, I also used the Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini alongside it, so I could judge the differences with the same liquids as realistically as possible. My focus was not on technical measurements, but on what actually stands out in daily use when both devices are used regularly.

Which version I tested

For clarity, I tested the Elfbar ELFX Standard Edition. I used the included pods as well as the liquids I normally use in everyday vaping.

With pod systems in particular, different editions, pods or usage scenarios can make a noticeable difference. That is why I want to be clear from the start about exactly which setup this experience is based on.

First impression of the Elfbar ELFX Standard Edition

The ELFX is positioned as a modern refillable pod system and is generally intended for 50/50 liquids and nicotine salt liquids. On paper, that sounds like a device that should be easy to use and versatile in daily life.

In my own test, however, it quickly became clear that the combination of temperature, pods and draw behaviour did not feel especially well balanced for me. That does not mean the device cannot work at all. It simply did not convince me in daily use as much as I had hoped for from a pod system in this category.

My impression of the ELFX in daily use

For me, consistency is one of the most important factors in a device. With a pod system, I want a smooth draw, noticeable differences between pods and handling that still feels practical when refilling regularly.

With the ELFX, I had the impression that the behaviour changed relatively quickly. Especially during repeated use, the overall experience felt less smooth and less finely tuned than I would personally want.

That was one of the main reasons why I did not just use the device on its own, but compared it directly with the Xros 5 Mini. In side-by-side daily use, the differences became much clearer to me.

Vapor felt too warm with both 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm

The most noticeable issue for me was vapor temperature. With the included pods, I found the vapor too warm for my personal preference.

This was not only the case with longer draws. Even with short puffs, the vapor already felt relatively warm to me in my test. With longer or more frequent draws, that impression became even more noticeable.

To me, it felt as if the system was delivering quite a lot of power in everyday use. This is intentionally phrased as a personal impression and not as a technical measurement. It is simply how the ELFX came across to me in real use.

What is also important here is this: I had the same overall impression with both the 0.6 ohm pod and the 0.8 ohm pod. That is why the issue was not just temperature itself, but also how clearly the pods actually differed in daily use.

What stood out to me

• The vapor became warm quite quickly for my taste.
• I noticed this with both short and longer draws.
• Even after switching between 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm, my overall impression remained quite similar.
• During frequent use, the draw felt less comfortable to me.

Pod differences in real-world use

Another key point for me was pod tuning. With the ELFX, I could not notice a major difference between the 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm pod in real use.

That mattered to me in daily life. If different pods only feel slightly different, it becomes harder to adjust the system to your own preference. For me, that kind of fine tuning is one of the strengths of a good pod system.

By comparison, the progression on the Xros 5 Mini felt much clearer to me.

• 0.4 ohm: more open and direct
• 0.6 ohm: balanced and versatile
• 0.8 ohm: calmer and more restricted

That finer tuning makes a noticeable difference for me in daily use. This is one of the areas where the Xros 5 Mini clearly worked better for me in direct comparison.

From my experience in a vape shop environment, I also see that this kind of differentiation plays an important role for many users. If someone is looking for a specific draw style, it helps when the individual pod options are clearly distinguishable in actual use.

If you want suitable replacement options, it may also be worth looking at pods and coils, especially if you want to compare different resistances.

Refilling and daily handling

I also paid close attention to refilling and general handling during my test. These details may seem small at first, but they can make a noticeable difference in everyday use.

The ELFX is filled through a rubber plug positioned at the upper side of the pod. The pod does not need to be removed for refilling, which is practical in theory.

In my own use, however, I found this solution less convenient. Opening the rubber plug did not feel quite as comfortable as I would personally want.

The Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini, on the other hand, is refilled from the top by opening or snapping off the mouthpiece. For me, this solution felt simpler and more intuitive in daily use.

If you refill regularly, this kind of handling difference becomes noticeable. To me, the top-fill system on the Xros 5 Mini felt more accessible and more user-friendly than the side rubber plug design on the ELFX.

My experience with nicotine salt liquids

I specifically tested the ELFX with my usual nicotine salt liquids. With my nicotine salt liquids, the ELFX did not convince me personally.

The flavour was there in my test, but the overall combination of temperature, draw behaviour and flavour delivery did not feel as rounded as I had hoped. Since the ELFX presents itself as a modern pod system, I expected a more refined result in this area.

This is intentionally not phrased as an absolute claim. Depending on the liquid, draw style and personal preference, other users may come to a different conclusion. For my own day-to-day use, though, the ELFX was not a system that really stood out positively with nicotine salts.

How the Xros 5 Mini handled different liquids

In direct comparison, the Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini worked well for me with every liquid I tested. That was one of the biggest strengths for me in daily use.

Fruit liquids, cooler profiles and other flavours all felt balanced, controlled and clean on the Xros 5 Mini. It gave me the impression that it adapts more easily to different liquids.

I did have one personal exception with tobacco liquids: in that case, I preferred the 0.8 ohm pod, because that setup felt calmer and more suitable to me.

This kind of difference is exactly why better pod tuning matters. When a device responds clearly to different liquids and pod choices, the whole package feels more refined to me.

Direct comparison: Elfbar ELFX vs. Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini

To get as realistic an impression as possible, I used both systems side by side with the same liquids. In direct comparison, the differences became much clearer to me than when using one device in isolation.

Where I noticed the biggest differences

• Vapor behaviour: the Xros 5 Mini felt smoother and more consistent to me
• Temperature: the ELFX felt warmer overall
• Pod tuning: the differences between pods were clearer on the Vaporesso side for me
• Airflow: airflow adjustment felt easier and more useful on the Xros 5 Mini
• Handling: the top-fill setup on the Xros felt more convenient in everyday use
• Flavour: in direct comparison, I found the Xros 5 Mini cleaner and more precise

The ELFX did produce flavour, but I have used pod systems before that felt more refined overall. That is why my personal comparison ended up leaning quite clearly towards the Xros 5 Mini.

Why the Xros 5 Mini worked better for me

Over time, the picture became fairly clear for me. In my experience, the Xros 5 Mini offers the more well-rounded overall package.

• more comfortable vapor behaviour
• clearer pod progression
• better airflow control
• easier refilling in daily use
• more convincing flavour delivery for my taste

For me, it is the combination of handling, tuning and consistency that makes the difference. That is why the Xros 5 Mini is not just the more pleasant alternative for me, but the device that feels more complete in everyday use overall.

My personal recommendation

If I compare both systems directly, my personal preference is quite clear.

If I had to choose purely based on my own impression, I would currently go with the Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini.

For me, it offers the more comfortable draw, finer tuning, easier handling and the more convincing overall feel in daily use.

My conclusion from both user and shop perspective

I look at both systems not only as a user, but also through everyday experience in a vape shop environment. That is where it becomes very clear how important a balanced draw, noticeable pod differences and simple handling can be in daily use.

In exactly those areas, the Xros 5 Mini clearly worked better for me than the ELFX.

That is why the ELFX Standard Edition is not a system I would personally prefer based on my own test. That said, someone using different liquids or preferring a different style of draw may still come to another conclusion.

Is the Elfbar ELFX suitable for nicotine salt liquids?

The ELFX is generally intended for that kind of use. In my test with my nicotine salt liquids, though, it did not really convince me personally. Depending on the liquid and how the device is used, other users may still have a different experience.
